The living standards of human species have reached a comfortable level due to the industrial revolution However ecosystems have been polluted by this industrial revolution which dumped the Earth s atmosphere with toxic gases Nowadays the toxic gas pollutants are emitted by industrial processes on road vehicles waste disposal automobile industries fossil fuel combustion, and electricity generation etc The emission of toxic gas pollutants is causing serious problems including respiratory problems pulmonary edema and even these pollutants could cause fatality to human beings along with plants and animals which live in both aquatic and terrestrial environment This leads a demand for sensitive sensors to detect toxic gaseous pollutants in the environment A gas sensor is essentially a refined electronic device that detects and responds to some type of gases from the physical environment and the output is generally a signal which is an electrical or optical signal Metal oxide semiconductor gas sensors have proved to be the best candidates for monitoring the emission of toxic gas pollutants since they are the low cost elements which have tunable structure at the nanoscale and simple interface electronics that operates on the principle that a change in conductivity occurs on contact with a target gas newline
