dc.description.abstractThe Rapeseed-mustard is the third essential edible oilseed crop of the world after soybean and palm oil. The importance and potential of rapeseed-mustard crop is well known as it is the key oilseed crop that can help in addressing the challenge of demand - supply gap of edible oil in India. India is the third largest grower of rapeseed-mustard after Canada, China and contributing to around 11 % of world s total production. Rapeseed-mustard are the important oilseed crops and also one of the second largest oilseed crops in India. Rapeseed mustard crop in the country is grown in several agro-climatic situations fluctuating from north-eastern to north western hills and down south under irrigated/rainfed, timely/late sown, saline soils and mixed cropping (2021-22). The mustard was found to be cultivated in 6699.67-thousand-hectare area in country during the year, 2021-22. The highest area under mustard was found to be occupied by Rajasthan (40.55%) followed by Madhya Pradesh (11.18%), Uttar Pradesh (10.46%), Haryana (9.66%), West Bengal (8.85%) and others state (19.29%) mustard area of top five state in study year 2021-22. The highest area under mustard was found to be occupied by Gird agro-climatic region (73.87%) followed by Northern hill region of Chhattisgarh (7.87%), Kymore Plateau newline
