Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to examine the dual mode optical switching
newlineproperties of the co polymethacrylates containing thermally reversible various substituted azobenzene and thermally irreversible fulgimide units in the pendant It was prepared by
newlinefree radical addition polymerization technique using AIBN as initiator with
newlinethe molar feed ratio 1 1 of the co monomers The homopolymers were prepared using AIBN as initiator following the similar procedure for the synthesis of co polymers with corresponding monomer for comparison The monomer fi was prepared by the reaction of fulgide and aniline in the presence of ZnCl2 HMDS and the resultant product was reacted with methacryloyl chloride in the presence of TEA as acid scavenger The remaining all the azobenzene containing monomers were prepared by the O decylation of various substituted
newlineazobenzene under the Williamson aryl ether synthesis conditions and the
newlineresultant product was reacted with methacryloyl chloride using the similar
newlineprocedure for the preparation of fi
