Abstract
The comprehension of legacy code is difficult to understand hence the maintenance of legacy software is currently biggest challenge. Reengineering/ Reverse engineering is one solution to this challenge. There are various reengineering tools available, but they only partially accomplish the reengineering task and are limited in nature. Consequently the need of comprehensive reengineering/reverse engineering tool arises. We designed comprehensive reengineering/reverse tool architecture based on object oriented and procedure oriented architecture. Requirement set is prepared by assortment of existing tools and detail CASE studies of tools Imagix-4D and Code to visual flowchart. This object oriented architectural design further translated to RETUM (Reverse Engineering Tool based on Unified Mapping Method) tool. We also bring out some set of metrics for measurement of propose architectural design of the reengineering tool. These measurements are useful for understanding the behavior of the RETUM tool architecture for improving the designs for achieving high quality. This research work gives the complete reengineering/reverse engineering tool and tool building process from start to end. It will also help the research community, especially those who are interested in the reengineering tool building.
