Digital Literacy And Digital Citizenship Among The Stakeholders Of Education A Study Of Secondary Schools Of Bihar

Abstract

In the recent century, the emergence of novel technology has connected the people in a new newlineway at the global level. As per the advancement of technology, citizens of all countries have newlinenot only had to learn to use it but also learn how to interact more effectively with one newlineanother (Spires, Paul, and Kerkhoff, 2017). The importance of digital literacy and digital newlinecitizenship in modernistic societies are pre-eminent for all stakeholders of education. newlineToday, 70 percent of 15 to 24 years old age population is online (Coward, 2018). They are newlineusing different online communication platforms to get knowledge and information (Al- newlineZahrani, 2015). They may be digital natives, but they do not understand the consequences newlineof their actions online (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, 2018, newlineWorld Development Report, 2019). They easily get exposed to violence, information newlinesecurity, identity theft, and racism (Van Foseen and Berson, 2008). This is even more newlineimportant for children since they most often spend more time online than adults (Ofcom, newline2019), and therefore they are more exposed to both the benefits and the risks of being newlineconnected. Day by day, in and outside of schools children need to know their rights and newlineresponsibilities associated with the digital world. They need to know how to navigate safely newlineand responsibly in the digital world. Hence, this is the appropriate time to make children newlineaware and cautious of not only their rights and privilege but also take equal responsibilities newlineto protect their digital citizenship. With this, all the stakeholders associated with children, newlinebe it their parents, teachers, various educational institutions, and others, equally need to newlineaddress the issue of children safety and their being responsible for their behaviors. Hence, if newlinewe want our children to be global digital literate and citizens, it must be imparted through newlinetheir curriculum.
