Abstract

Any discussion on the socio political modernization of Kerala society would be prefixed with a survey of the different aspects of the process of interaction of colonial modernity and the indigenous Kerala society This is because as elsewhere in the colonial societies in Kerala too the course of modernity as a social phenomenon touching upon the whole facets of human life is inextricably linked to the colonial experience As a political project the structure of colonialism was built on the power relations of domination and subordination Encounter with colonial modernity in its political economic sociocultural and ideological manifestations positively influenced the structure and functioning of the Kerala society newline
