Weed Management in Wheat Through Tillage Residue and Herbicide

Abstract

tillage, residue and herbicide application were conducted during rabi 2020-21 and 2021-22 at newlineAICRP on Wheat, MARS, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad under irrigated newlineconditions. newlineConventional tillage with glyricidia mulching at 3 t/ha recorded significantly lower newlinenumber of grasses, sedges, broad leaved weeds, weed dry weight, weed index and higher newlineweed control efficiency at all the growth stages of wheat. While they were maximum under newlineminimum tillage with no residue. Conventional tillage with glyricidia recorded significantly newlinehigher growth parameters, SPAD value, yield attributes (productive tillers/m2, number of newlinegrains per spike, grain weight per spike and thousand grain weight), grain (37.04 q/ha), straw newline(60.39 q/ha), protein (430.4 kg/ha) yield, gross returns (Rs. 97,118/ha) and net returns (Rs. newline57,321/ha). B:C ratio (2.68) was higher under minimum tillage with glyricidia residue. newlineMinimum tillage with glyricidia recorded significantly higher soil enzymatic activities and newlineimproved soil organic carbon (0.61%), SOC sequestration (15.0 t/ha/year) available nitrogen newline(197.5 kg/ha), phosphorus (34.5 kg/ha) and potassium (279.9 kg/ha) in soil after harvest of newlinewheat crop. newlinePreemergence application of pendimethalin1.0 kg a.i/ha followed by post emergence newlinetank mixture of sulfosulfuron 25 g a.i/ha + metsulfuron-methyl 4 g a.i/ha (100% RDH) with newlinesoybean residue 3 t/ha recorded significantly lower number of grasses, sedges, broad leaved newlineweeds, weed dry weight, weed index and higher weed control efficiency. This improved the newlinegrowth parameters (plant height, number of tillers/m2, plant dry weight), SPAD value, yield newlineattributes, grain (41.74 q/ha), straw (64.68 q/ha), protein (556.1 kg/ha) yield, gross returns newline(Rs.1,09,070/ha) and net returns (Rs. 72,445/ha). B:C ratio (3.16) was higher with the newlineapplication of preemergence -pendimethalin1.0 kg a.i/ha + post emergence tank mixture - newlinesulfosulfuron + metsulfuron-methyl at 100% RDH without residue.
