Due to the advancement of communication technology and the newlineinexpensive nature of sensors, Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) has widened its newlineapplicability in numerous real-time applications. The major applications of WSN newlineinclude healthcare, surveillance, remote sensing, monitoring, tracking based newlineapplications and so on. The wireless sensors are easily deployable and newlinemanageable; however, they are energy constrained. Due to the fact that sensors newlineare typically placed in hostile environments, it is complicated to recharge or newlinereplace the sensors that have become depleted of their energy. This fact makes newlineWSN to focus more on energy efficiency. newlineOn the other hand, security is another crucial challenge for WSN. The newlineattackers can easily compromise sensor nodes and steal data, which is newlineundesirable. Hence, secure data communication should be ensured by the WSN. newlineThe two major issues being considered by this research work are energy newlineefficiency and security. newlineData communication is the primary task of any WSN and it is the newlinefunctionality that consumes more energy. The choice of effective route reduces newlinethe energy utilization, while ensuring reliable communication. Introducing newlineenergy efficiency to routing scheme is highly challenging, as the routing scheme newlinemust be of lightweight to conserve energy. newlineConsidering this point, this research work presents three energy newlineefficient and trustworthy routing solutions assisted by metaheuristic algorithms. newlineThe initial phase of research presents a cluster based trustworthy routing scheme newlinebeing assisted by Whale Optimization (WO). It is the WO algorithm that is used newlineto select the principal node and the most reliable path to take. The trust index of newlinethe sensor nodes is computed with which the trustworthy route is chosen. newline
