Abstract
newline An active magnetic bearing (AMB) is a type of bearing that uses magnetic fields to support
newlinea rotating shaft or other moving parts without physical contact. It is an advanced technology
newlinethat offers several advantages over conventional bearings, including high speed, high
newlineprecision, low friction, and low maintenance requirements. The operation of an AMB
newlineinvolves the use of electromagnets to generate magnetic fields that suspend the rotor or other
newlinemoving part in the air gap between the stator and rotor. The magnetic fields are controlled
newlineusing sensors and a feedback system that monitors the position and movement of the rotor
newlineand adjusts the magnetic fields to maintain stability and control. One of the key benefits of
newlinean AMB is its ability to operate at high speeds, making it ideal for use in applications such
newlineas turbines, compressors, and other high-speed rotating machinery. Because there is no
newlinephysical contact between the rotor and stator, there is no friction or wear, which leads to
newlinereduced maintenance requirements and longer service life. Another advantage of AMBs is
newlinetheir ability to provide precise control over the position and movement of the rotor or other
newlinemoving part. This makes them well-suited for applications that require high levels of
newlineaccuracy and precision, such as semiconductor manufacturing, medical equipment, and
newlineaerospace.
newlineHowever, there are also some challenges associated with the use of AMBs. One of the
newlineprimary challenges is the control of the magnetic fields, which requires sophisticated control
newlinealgorithms and feedback systems. To tackle these challenges, a linearized transfer function
newlineis mathematically derived with the help of physical parameters of fabricated AMB hardware
newlinemodel. this derived transfer function is of second order and open loop unstable. Therefore, a
newlineclosed loop is proposed which consists power amplifier, controller and sensor. In this thesis,
newlinedifferent types of controllers are used to control the proposed AMB system. Started with the
newlinevery basic type of classical con
