Comparative Evaluation Of Triangular Flap And Lingual Based Pedicled Flap In Surgical Removal Of Unerupted Impacted Mandibular Third Molars

ABSTRACT newlineAIM newlineThis study aimed to compare lingual based pedicle flap with conventional newlinetriangular flap and to evaluate its effect on postoperative outcomes after newlinesurgical extraction of impacted lower third molars. newlineMATERIALS AND METHODS newline36 patients to undergo surgical removal of completely unerupted lower third newlinemolars were included in this study. Patients were divided into 2 groups. In the newlinefirst group (A), a Triangular flap was used. In the second group (B), a lingual newlinebased pedicled flap was used. Postoperative pain was evaluated by visual newlineanalog scale along with which Facial swelling, healing of the wound, the newlineincidence of alveolar osteitis, and trismus were evaluated on postoperative newlinedays 0, 2, and 7. newlineRESULTS newlinePain scores, mouth opening, and swelling recorded in Group A were found to newlinebe significantly lower as compared to pain scores in Group B on the second newlinepostoperative day, whereas the same showed no significant difference on the newlineseventh postoperative day. Periodontal status is significantly better with newlinegroup B compared to group A.
