| dc.description.abstract | TheimportanceofhumancapitalwasfirstrecognizedduringthefamousHawthorneexperimentattheWesternElectricCompanybyEltonMayo,marking the beginning of the human relations school. Since then, efforts havebeenmadebyorganizationstonurturetheiremployee swell-beingandintrinsicmotivation.Beforehumanrelationschool,theclassicalandneo-classical approach were followed, which was mainly based on the ideas ofTaylor, i.e., treat humans like a machine for productivity. At that point in timecarrot and stick approach (or autocratic) was found to be a more appropriateleadershipstyle. newlinePost-emergence of human relation school, both academicians and partitionersmadeeffortstounderstandtheinteractionofsocialandpsychologicalprocesses.Togainacompetitiveadvantageintheglobalizeduncertainenvironment, organizations started nurturing their talented workforce. Leaderswith time became more employee-centric and started practicing participatorystyle over carrot and stick approach. As the world became more competitive,moreandmoreindustriesstartedcomingupanditbecamechallengingtodeal with different types ofworkforceand employees. This is when the studyof human behavior in business organizations and industries became importantandscholarsstartedexploring andsuggesting measures forimprovement.Thefieldoforganizationalbehaviordealingwithanalyzingandexploringhuman behavior, values, personality, and attitude at the workplacestartedgaining importance bothamong academiciansandpractitioners. newlineFurtherwithtechnologicaladvancementandextensionofcommercialactivities, the concern for managing human resources got shifted from hiringtalenttoengagingthem,asStaff Participationwiththeorganizational goals became difficult. Leadership styles were challenged at all levels. Gallup1survey revealed that job-hopping behavior is very high among millennials (thegeneration born between 1980-96).
