Information retrieval and exploration are important tasks in the era of large volume data and newlineknowledge-intensive applications. Traditional approaches often struggle with handling data and newlineleveraging semantic knowledge effectively. Our research includes a semantic knowledge-based newlineframework for information extraction and exploration using the Simple Protocol and RDF Query newlineLanguage (SPARQL) available in the Union Catalogue of Gujarat Colleges (GujCat). The newlineframework incorporates semantic technologies and harnesses the power of SPARQL queries to newlineextract and explore structured information from diverse data sources. newlineA semantic information retrieval system provides data using rule-based inference from the newlineontology. Users can query information from a database or any other data source that can be mapped newlineto the Resource Description Framework (RDF) using the SPARQL Protocol and RDF Query newlineLanguage. The SPARQL standard, developed and supported by the World Wide Web Consortium newline(W3C), enables developers and users to focus on what they want to know rather than how a newlinedatabase is structured. To address challenges in library catalogues, this study presents an ontological approach to newlineconverting a syntactic search strategy into a semantic search model. It also identifies major subjects newlineusing the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system, available in GujCat. The semantic web is newlineboth creative and relevant, providing information in a way that computers can understand. newlineCurrently, GujCat follows keyword-based searching techniques, which only return exact text newlinematching results. To enhance the overall search result quality in GujCat, we defined a structure that integrates newlinesemantic concepts with the DDC scheme to improve subject-wise searches. Semantic-based search newlinerequires the use of the Resource Description Framework (RDF) and ontology concepts. SPARQL, newlinea query language recommended by the W3C, facilitates access to and exploration of ontologies newlineand data.
