dc.description.abstractThe power transformer is the primary component of the power system. newlineThe degradation and excessive heat of dielectric liquid are the main reasons newlinefor transformer failure. Mineral oil is commonly employed as a coolant in newlinetransformers, and is non-biodegradable. Due to its disadvantages, numerous newlineinvestigations are currently being carried out to identify an alternative newlineinsulating fluid for transformers. Biodegradable vegetable oil has been found newlineto be a suitable alternative for the liquid insulations in transformers. It has newlinebeen investigated over the past few decades and has significant improvements newlinein transformer properties. newlineThe primary objective of this investigation is to evaluate vegetable oils newlinesuch as Sunflower Oil (SFO), Soybean Oil (SBO), and Rice Bran Oil (RBO) newlineas suitable alternatives for conventional mineral oil in power transformers. newlineThe properties of transformer insulation, including viscosity, flash point, fire newlinepoint, interfacial tension, moisture, acidity, breakdown voltage, dissipation newlinefactor, thermal degradation, permittivity, and partial discharge, are measured newlinefor vegetable oils, Mineral Oil (MO), and aged vegetable oils. The result newlineindicates Sunflower oil has superior insulation properties to mineral oil. For newlineaging characteristics, the pure vegetable oils samples have better newlinecharacteristics compared to aged vegetable oils samples. newline
