A Study on Narrative Strategies in the Select Science Fiction of R J Sawyer

Abstract

This research defines the key terms such as narrative strategies, imagination, fancy, popular literature and Science Fiction. It also traces the origin of genre of Science Fiction and explores the brief history of its development. The history of Science Fiction underlines its emergence and flourishment mostly in 20th century with different themes exploited by the major and minor writers and its popularity. The chronological survey of the development of genre helps to place the Canadian Science Fiction in the mainstream Science Fiction in general and R. J. Sawyer in the tradition of Canadian Science Fiction in particular. The subsequent chapter aims at preparing a theoretical framework for analyzing the new world created by R. J. Sawyer in the select novels by preparing an eclectic model based on the insights derived from anthropology, sociology, politics, religion and cultural studies
