Abstract

The thesis examines the re-definition of Identity under political violence, exile and motherhood in the selected novels of Julia Alvarez. It explores the redefinition of identity of women through a pluralistic feminist approach. It focuses on breaking the stereotypical images of women and expanding their boundaries of freedom. The aim is to reimagine women as they actually exist and oppose the images created by men in their versions of history. The research further emphasizes on women handling their traditional roles along with carving an identity for themselves as revolutionaries, writers and educators. They learn to oppose the patriarchy in their private and public life and become the catalyst of change for the nation as well as other women. newline
