Abstract
The Applications of wireless sensing devices is increasing day-by-day
newlinein all areas of human life throughout the world. Most of these devices are based
newlineon small sensors that automatically collect information from the surrounding
newlineenvironment and then transmit it to the target without any human intervention.
newlineAlso, it is utilized in many applications such as urban sensing, volcano fire
newlinemonitoring, military, agriculture, monitoring, traffic and medical. These tiny
newlinesensors are highly energy constrained due to their limited battery, storage,
newlineprocessing power and communication capacity. Energy consumption and
newlinenetwork life time are two major parameter in Wireless sensing networks. The
newlinenetwork lifetime is greatly affected as the size of the network and the data to be
newlinetransmitted increases, so the battery power and longevity are likely to decrease.
newlineSo the entire communication system will collapse and the quality of the service
newlineparameters will be affected. To avoid this problem, in this thesis energy efficient
newlinedata transmission in Wireless networks is proposed. To achieve this, the
newlineproposed concept is discussed in the three contributions.
newlineIn the first contribution, an energy efficient data gathering using
newlineoptimal minimum coverage spanning tree in WSN is developed. This
newlinecontribution consists of three modules namely, cluster formation using Low-
newlineEnergy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) protocol, Cluster Head (CH)
newlineselection, and path selection using Optimal Minimum Covering Spanning Tree
newline(OMST) algorithm. To reduce the complexity and energy consumption, initially
newlinesensor nodes are clustered using LEACH protocol. After the clustering process,
newlineCHs are selected. The selected CHs are gathered the information from cluster
newlinemembers. Then, the selected CHs are transferring the gathered information to the
newlinedestination through mobile nodes. To reduce the delay in data transmission, the
newlineoptimal paths are selected using particle gene swarm (PGS) model.
