Abstract

Examining the relationship between Workplace Spirituality and Organizational Politics: A Perceptual Study Background- Politics is a critical issue in an organization and it is considered as an intriguing phenomenon. In Higher educational institutions, faculty members face many problems owing to politics involved in the organization due to which they are not able to concentrate on their academic work and most of the time feel frustrated at work. Balancing what talk to give preference to and what to be ignored becomes difficult for the employees. The poor balance between the two leads to imbalance in their mind which in turn leads to anger, anxiety, job burnout, job stress and other mental and psychological disorders. Purpose- The main aim of this study is to research on how spirituality at workplace helps employees to overcome the situations that arise due to negative effects of power and politics among faculty members working in different universities and colleges in Delhi-NCR. This research study attempts to explore the level of spirituality and perceptions of organizational politics and the relationship between the two. This study also explains how psychological capital and organizational trust act as mediator between workplace spirituality and perceptions of organizational politics. Methodology: This study uses the questionnaire survey method to collect primary data from target respondent and Stratified Random Sampling method to select the sample from the target population. Then with the help of different available software, the data is analyzed further. Findings: Results reveal that sense of community is the most experienced dimensions of workplace spirituality among teachers. Another two closely experienced dimensions of workplace spirituality are karma capital and gratitude. As far as constructs of psychological capital are concerned, teachers have a quite high level of self-efficacy and optimism.
