The present investigation on Inheritance of fertility restoration, validation of molecular markers linked to male sterility and gene action of yield and its component traits in chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) was carried out at Horticultural Research Station, Lam Farm, Guntur, Andhra Pradesh during kharif, 2018-19 and 2019-20 to identify the restorer and maintainer lines, knowing the nature of genetics of fertility restoration, validation of the molecular markers linked to CMS trait and gene action of various qualitative and quantitative characters. Two CMS lines, MS-2A and MS-276A with 100 % sterility has been identified by examining the pollen fertility. Fifty two hybrids were generated by involving of twenty six different male parents and two CMS lines. Based on the restoration of fertility in test hybrids, 12 (G3, G4, LCA-235, LCA-616, LCA-639, LCA-655, LCA-709, LCA-801, LCA-720, LCA-723, LCA-728 and LCA-754) lines identified as fertility restorers and 8 (LCA-305, LCA-620, LCA-625, LCA-718, LCA-724, LCA-727, LCA-735 and LCA-740) lines identified as sterility maintainers. newlineGenetic analysis of fertility restoration was performed on progeny of MS-276A (CMS line) and LCA-801 (a fertility restorer line). F2 segregation population and back cross BC1 population obtained from an F1 hybrid (MS-276A x LCA-801). Backcross the fertility of the test-crossed lines was assessed under open field conditions using pollen related criteria. The fertility restoration trait segregated in 3:1 and 1:1 F2 segregation populations and back crossed BC1 populations respectively. This indicates single dominant gene inheritance of the Rf gene. There is no effect of CMS background on the restoration trait inheritance. newlineAuthor newline: newlineT.
