Abstract
Social Cognitive agent systems in an uncertain and real-time environments require agents to
newlinebehave autonomously, intelligently, cognitively and socially as part of a homogeneous as well
newlineas heterogeneous group. This thesis deals with enactive, social, artificial cognitive systems
newlineconsisting of society of cognitive computing agents behaving in physical and vir- tual
newlineinformation environments for solving real world problems. Also, in this thesis it is investigated
newlineon data perception, learning, knowledge representation and inference within the social
newlinecognitive agent systems. The thesis marks following core contributions to the field of cognitive
newlinecomputing and artificial cognitive systems.
newlineFirstly, a novel social cognitive architectural framework is developed and known as
newlineUC- SCIT (Unified Cooperative Service Cognitive Information Technology), accomplished
newlineof human based intelligence for implementing decision making in complex environments, supported
newlineby a society of cognitive agents. It support real time unified cooperative services.
newlineSecondly, the thesis presents layered cognitive services, where cognitive interface service
newlinesenses information from the real world environment. Feature extraction service is linked to the
newlineworking memory to store features of current scenario, the cognitive engine processes
newlineinformation for storage by learning service, and passes information for decision making by
newlineinference services. A special social service layer is added to support interactive decision.
newlineThirdly, the thesis describes the details about the developments in the field of cognitive
newlinecomputing and its future prospects in building general purpose cognitive system. Also,
newlinethe thesis contributes to survey historical progresses and application done in the field of
newlineartificial cognitive systems by the scientific world.
newlineLastly, the thesis deals with real functioning cases of UCSCIT architecture based
newlinecognitive humanoid agents and medical agents. The detailed working and procedures are
newlineincluded in the thesis for the two cases, so that a clear elucidation of the implementation can
newlinebe understood and will help budding cognitive researchers to foster their skills. The thesis
newlineestablishes that by social cognitive skills the cognitive agent can have human like functionality.
