| dc.description.abstract | In the previous two decades, a widespread assortment of naturally newlineoccurring bioactive peptides have been isolated from plants, animals and sources newlineof marine origin. These peptides function as hormones, enzymes, enzyme newlineinhibitors or substrates, growth promoters or inhibitors, neurotransmitters and newlineimmunomodulators (Wieland et al., 1995), antifungal, antibacterial, cytotoxic, newlineantineoplastic, insecticidal, anti-inflammatory, anthelmintic, tyrosinase inhibitory newlineand melanin production inhibitory activities (Lau et al., 2018). Studies have newlineshown that cyclic peptides have fewer side effects compared to their newlinecorresponding linear peptides. This is because, the inherent flexibility of the linear newlinepeptides leads to different conformations which can bind to more than one newlineacceptor molecule and leads to undesirable side effects (Dunn et al., 2001). newlineAlthough cyclic peptides are biologically active and medicinally important, these newlineare obtained from the natural sources in minute quantities. This has prompted newlinemany scientists to synthesize these compounds in the laboratory and study their newlinebiological activities. (Fosgerau et al., 2015) newline | |
