Abstract
Haryana s economic landscape has undergone profound structural transformations over the past three decades, transitioning from an agriculture-dependent economy to a more diversified structure with a growing emphasis on industrialization and the service sector. This study critically examines the sectoral shifts in Haryana s
newlineeconomy from 1991 to 2021, analyzing the underlying factors driving these transformations and their implications for sustainable economic growth. By evaluating the changing contributions of agriculture, industry, and services to
newlineHaryana s Net State Domestic Product (NSDP) and employment, this research provides a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of structural change within the state s economy. The findings of this study indicate that Haryana s economy has progressively
newlinediversified, with structural shifts aligned with national and global economic trends. While the primary sector remains crucial for livelihoods, its declining share in NSDP underscores the need for sustained policy support in terms of technological interventions, climate resilience, and rural development programs.
newlineThe secondary sector s steady growth reflects the success of industrialization strategies, yet challenges such as infrastructure bottlenecks, labor market rigidity, and environmental concerns need to be addressed. The service sector s expansion highlights its role as the future growth engine, necessitating investments in human capital, digital infrastructure, and financial services to sustain momentum.
newlineThis study contributes to the broader discourse on economic transformation by providing empirical insights into Haryana s structural changes and the policies that have shaped its growth trajectory. It emphasizes the need for balanced sectoral development, strategic planning for economic resilience, and sustainable growth strategies to ensure long-term prosperity.
