Impact of Cost Overrun and Management of Critical Factors Influencing the Construction of Over Bridges in Kolkata and Howrah Municipal Corporation West Bengal

Abstract

The road over bridge (ROB) can be defined as a grade separated bridge structure with gradient newlineapproaches on both sides. People s lives are getting faster. People become engaged their life newlinewith various work places, developing life style and their expectations for development towards newlinethe nation is growing very fast. Roads are one of the main mediums of transportation, so the newlinetraffic at any level crossing (LC) is becoming large and the main problem of waiting at LC newlineleads to loss at man hour, loss of fuel, consequent loss of GDP, increasing sound pollution and newlinefinally damnification of a fast growing economy. An observation has been made to generate an newlineidea on the economy and it may help to fill the gap of loss due to some common factors like newlinetime delay and cost overrun. Therefore, our study will gradually focus on ways to build up a newlinelinkage between the economy and development of the nation through a structured framework newlinekeeping emphasis on the quality improvement of infrastructural development (ID) particularly newlineby constructing over bridges or the smooth running as well as easy movement. This study not newlineonly examines the cost overrun and delay factors, but also, to contribute something to the newlinesociety for the development of employment level. This study investigates time delay that leads newlineto cost overrun and management of critical factors related to construction of over bridges in newlinethe jurisdiction of Kolkata and Howrah municipal area using qualitative and quantitative newlineanalysis. The qualitative analysis involves the identification of various factors, majority of newlineinfrastructure projects are affected by time delay and it leads to cost overruns. A questionnaire newlinewas designed by considering the identification factors causing cost overrun and time delay of newlineover bridges construction and the questionnaire survey were conducted from various engineers, newlinecontractors and officials of the ROB construction projects.
