Enhancing Surface Morphology and Reflectance of Aluminum Sheet and Pipes Using CNC Abrasive Finishing

Abstract

There is currently a high demand in the polishing industry for achieving a newlinesmooth, perfectly flat, reflective surface on metallic materials. This is particularly newlineimportant for imaging and telescope mirrors used in space missions. Aluminium and newlinealloy materials, widely employed in industries such as aerospace, automotive, and newlinemedical, present difficulties in achieving a mirror-like surface due to their inherent newlineductility. Conventional and cutting-edge machining processes confront difficulties in newlineachieving the appropriate level of surface polish at the nanoscale, which requires a high newlinedegree of reflectivity. This research proposes and implements a straightforward and newlinecost-effective abrasive finishing technique on a CNC machine to transform raw newlinealuminium alloys into high reflecting aluminum mirrors. newlineThe surface roughness of a produced component plays a crucial role in newlinedefining its surface quality and functional performance. In order to meet the rigorous newlinestandards of precision and meso/micro engineering, it is necessary to perform ultra-fine newlinesurface finishing without altering their shape. Current methods and techniques for newlinecreating smooth and polished surfaces in nano levels require unique experimental setups newlineand costly equipment newline
