Abstract

Organic synthesis involving strained molecules and reactive intermediates have given a new dimension. Strain-release driven functionalization has enabled the rapid access to various linear and cyclic compounds which were otherwise challenging to achieve. Donor-Acceptor (D-A) cyclopropanes belong to the class of strained molecules which have found emerging applications as 1,3-dipolar system (three-carbon synthon) in various cycloaddition reactions. Apart from this, this reactive system has been used in many other useful transformations, including isomerization, 1,3-bisfucntionalization, ring-opening functionalization etc. An introduction of ring-strain in cycloalkanes, general reactivities of D-A cyclopropanes and reaction development has been discussed in Chapter 1 with appropriate examples. newline
