N newline· Poor protein and energy intake is a major cause of higher illness and death rates in hemodialysis patients. Inflammatory markers like IL-6 and hs-CRP are known to increase the risk of arterial vascular diseases. newline· Based on what has been said, it is possible that poor diet combined with other cardiometabolic risk factors makes it more likely for CKD patients to die. newline· The goal of this study was to confirm the link between bad diet and a higher chance of heart disease in hemodialysis patients. newlineAIM AND OBJECTIVE newline· Assess nutritional status in patients CKD patients newline· To analyse the atherosclerotic propensity in patients with CKD and CIMT. using hsCRP newline· To compare atherosclerotic propensity between malnourished and normally nourished patients of CKD newlineMATERIALS AND METHODS newlineA cross sectional study was conducted to assess the nutritional status in CKD individuals and to analyse the difference in atherosclerotic propensity between malnourished and normally nourished using CIMT and hsCRP from the Department of General Medicine, Chettinad Medical College Hospital and Research Institute from April 2021 to January 2023. They were recruited based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Detailed history, examination, and outcome were taken from the case sheets available/telephonic conversation and direct follow up. All clinical and radiological data were entered in excel sheet. newlineRESULT newlineIn the present study among the cases with CKD, based on the BMI categories, there were 37%, 55% and 8% of the cases in underweight, normal and overweight categories, respectively. The mean BMI among study participants was recorded to be 21.4± 3.1. Notably, the mean right CIMT was 0.75± 0.02 mm, left CIMT was newline0.77 ± 0.03 mm and the mean CIMT was noted as 0.76 ± 0.03 mm. Also, the mean hsCRP value was recorded as 2.4 ± 1.6 mg/L. Most importantly, the stages of CKD were significantly associated with nourishment status., i.e increasing the severity of CKD, poor the nourishment status. Additionally, mean CIMT and mean hsCRP were also remarkably differs with the nourishment status of the CKD cases. newlineCONCLUSION newlineWe infer that there is a need for assessment of nutritional status at periodic intervals. Also, improving the nutritional status may suppress the ongoing inflammation and may have a favorable outcome with reduction in atherosclerotic related morbidity and mortality. Thus, early recognition of malnourishment in CKD individuals might help in prevention of early progression of cardiovascular complications. newline
