Abstract
The objective of this thesis work involves three wood rotting fungi isolates were selected for the removal of six xenobiotic pollutants i.e. ATZ, GLY, DVVP, DCF, Pb(II) and Cd(II) metal ions. Before the degradation studies characterization of the fungal strains was done, by using both physiological and molecular techniques. Three fungal strains were identified as B. adusta, S. longisporum, and F. meliae respectively. The influence of physical and nutritional factors on the growth and ligninolytic enzyme production of selected fungal species was studied. These standardized growth parameters and nutritional requirements were further employed for the remediation studies of the xenobiotic compounds. The SEM, EDX, FTIR, GCMS and LCMS affirmed the removal of the xenobiotic compounds. The efficiency of system was also evaluated for real water samples. The toxicity estimation test conducted on the degradation and removal of end products indicated that all the fungal species carried out absolute remediation of concerned xenobiotic compounds from the aqueous solution.
