Power Quality Analysis of Power Systems With Large Penetration of Renewable Energy Sources

Abstract

New trends in power systems includes the placement of Distributed Generators (DGs) to overcome newlinethe draw backs of conventional power systems. Distributed Generator can be connected near to the newlineload points. Hence the placement of Distributed Generators is an important factor to be considered newlinefor the analysis due to its positive as well as negative impacts. newlineMore concentration has to be given on renewable energy sources and its penetration level. The newlinenew trends in power system includes the renewable energy sources with their large penetration newlinelevels interconnected to Distribution Systems. The penetration level of renewable distributed newlinegenerators plays an important role in the interconnected system and their impacts (both positive newlineand negative) can be considered for the analysis. newlineThe Positive impacts includes improvement in voltage profile, reduction in active and reactive newlinepower losses, thereby improving the power quality and reliability of the system. The improper newlineplacement i.e.; penetration level, type of Distributed Generators and location of Distributed newlineGenerators leads to the increase in active power and reactive power losses, creates variation in newlinevoltage profile and also there of chances of reversal of power flow. newlineIn this dissertation, renewable distributed generators (Solar and Wind) for different penetration newlinelevels are considered to improve the system performance which includes the quality of the power newlineto be supplied. Standard IEEE 33 bus, 69 bus and Practical (Mysuru Zone) 32 bus test systems are newlineconsidered and tested for heavy load condition.
