Multicast communication is the distribution of an exclusive message from one node to many other nodes. It plays a vital role in high performance computing and communication networks. Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) optical networks act as a spine for telecommunication networks. WDM is based on the transmission of several light beams of different wavelength simultaneously through an optical fiber. Wavelengths are precious resources in WDM optical networks and its utilization must be controlled to reduce the network cost and complexity. In this thesis, the main focus is to derive the necessary and sufficient conditions on the minimum wavelength number required for the selected network topologies to be wide sense nonblocking multicast under single hop routing model. Firstly, a linear array and ring networks are extended by directly linking all nodes which are separated by one intermediate node with additional fibers which is referred as linear array and ring networks with 2- ength extension. The necessary and sufficient conditions on the minimum wavelength number required for the linear array and ring networks with 2- length extension to be wide sense nonblocking multicast is studied under longest link first routing model. Necessary wavelength assignment techniques for wide sense nonblocking multicast are also proposed for the above network topologies. The results found in this work are then compared with their corresponding basic network topologies newline
