Integrated Assessment of Environmental Drivers on Water Quality and Public Health A Study On Kainakary Panchayat Alappuzha Kerala India

Abstract

The present and future sustenance of life on earth are heavily reliant on natural resources. The undesirable outcomes of these needs have been chronicled by many organizations, governmental and independent research bodies. Healthy planet, healthy people , the theme of the sixth Global Environment Outlook, is directed toward assessing recent scientific information and data, analyzing current and past environmental conditions, and identifying future options to achieve the environmental dimension of the Sustainable Development Goals. This research delves into the needs and usage of groundwater resources and the consequences of utilizing these sources holistically at the regional scale of wetland ecosystems. These ecosystems contribute significantly to sustainable living, and there is a need for a deeper understanding of various actors and their interrelationships in their daily life. As a first step, we determined the water quality of the groundwater sources over two years, 2018 and 2019, in Kainakary Panchayat, an ecologically fragile wetland region in southern Kerala, India, facing diverse environmental challenges. This permits elucidation of the major pollutants and factors influencing its increase or decrease, particularly the seasons of the hydrological cycle. Our results identified geogenic and anthropogenic contaminants in the groundwater sources of the study area. In the next step of this multi-objective study, we identified the environmental drivers that impact water quality, particularly those that result in a significant environmental, health, or economic burden, to facilitate better decision making in Kainakary Panchayat. newlineFinally, integrated assessment of these key environmental drivers, their interrelationships, interlinkages, mechanisms of actions, and their health risks through an interdisciplinary process of identification, analysis, and assessment of all-natural and anthropogenic factors and interrelationships has culminated in conceptualizing Strategic Impact Management Framework ....
