Abstract
The rise of health-conscious consumerism has emerged as a significant trend in the global food
newlineindustry, with India witnessing a notable shift in consumer preferences towards healthier and
newlinemore nutritious food options. This study aims to investigate the factors influencing the purchase
newlineintentions of health-conscious consumers towards healthy packaged foods in India. By
newlineexamining the interplay between health beliefs, health consciousness, human behavior, and the
newlinerole of nutritional labels, this research seeks to provide valuable insights for food
newlinemanufacturers, policymakers, and public health professionals.
newlineThe study employs a cross-sectional design and uses a structured questionnaire to
newlinecollect data from a sample of Indian consumers. The conceptual framework integrates
newlineconstructs from the Health Belief Model and the Theory of Planned Behavior to develop a
newlinecomprehensive model of health-conscious consumer behavior. Structural equation modeling
newline(SEM) is used to analyze the data and test the proposed hypotheses.
newlineThe findings reveal that health beliefs, health consciousness, and human behavior have
newlinesignificant positive effects on the purchase intention of healthy packaged foods. Additionally,
newlinethe study highlights the mediating role of nutritional label use in the relationship between health
newlinebeliefs, health consciousness, and purchase intention. The results also underscore the
newlineimportance of consumer trust and the perceived credibility of nutritional information in driving
newlinehealth-conscious food choices.
newlineThe study explores the impact of demographic factors, such as age, gender, education,
newlineand income, on the relationships between the investigated constructs. The findings suggest that
newlinefood manufacturers and marketers should develop targeted strategies to cater to the unique
newlinepreferences and expectations of different consumer segments within the health-conscious
newlinemarket.
