Indian National Congress since independence an anlysis of electoral performance and support structure

Abstract

A perusal of the review of literature makes it clear that every scholar has dealt the subject according to his own perception. In his classic work in two volumes, Dr. Pattabhai Sitaramayya has traced the history of Indian National Congress from 1885 to 1947, while the present work deals with Indian National Congress after independence. Dr. S.L. Malhotra, in his edited work, Mahatma Gandhi and Indian National Congressand#8223; has discussed the role played by Mahatma Gandhi in the development of Indian National Congress. The other works also deal mostly with the Congress of pre-independence days. All these works are on Indian National Congress but they discussed the subject with their own perspective. An analysis of the electoral performance, support structure and leadership pattern is very essential for the proper understanding of the subject which has not been dealt in any of the previous works. Hence this subject is quite virgin and there is an ample scope of original research on this topic. newline
