Researches on adolescent conduct problems have proliferated over the past newlineseveral years, demonstrating the significance and consequences of Emotional and newlineBehavioural Disorders (EBDs) on their emotional, psychological and social wellbeing. newlineBecause of the nature and severity of problems along with the long term newlinenegative consequences, externalising behaviours have emerged as a serious concern newlinenot only at individual levels but also family and society, at large. Among the psychosocial newlinecorrelates and multiple risk factors of externalising behaviours of children, the newlinerole of parental attitude and behaviours were well documented. The present study newlineexamined whether the perceived self-derogation of mother has any significant newlinemoderating effect on the mental health and externalising behaviours of adolescents. newlineParticipants of the study constituted 1080 adolescents from various schools in Kerala. newlineThe result indicated that perceived self-derogation of mother has a significant newlinemoderating effect on the mental health and externalising behaviours of adolescents. It newlinewas also revealed that externalising behaviours varies with respect to gender, stream newlineof study, birth order, and employment status of mothers. Type of family and place of newlineresidence were found to have lesser impact on the externalising behaviours of newlineadolescents. The findings of the study is highly relevant both in theoretical and newlinepractical levels, as it can provide a better understanding while conducting researches newlineand planning intervention programmes designed for addressing adolescents problem newlinebehaviours. newline newline
