Comparative evaluation and formulation development of bioenhancers on bioavailability of Antibiotic Antihypertensive and Antidiabetic Drugs

Abstract

The objective of this study was to design and develop transdermal patches of antibiotic, antihypertensive and antidiabetic drugs along with the extract of Cinnamomum zeylanicum Bark, Nigella sativa Seeds and Capsicum annum fruits in order to study the effect of various extract on bioavailability of various transdermal patches. In this study an effort was made in direction to find out the effect of herbal extract along with the modern medicine in order to reduce the dose required for the same pharmacological action which in turns help to reduce the toxic effect of the drug. In this study challenge was to find out the physical stability of the active pharmaceutical ingredients like Glibenclamide, Amoxicillin and Telmisartan, herbal extract like Cinnamomum zeylanicum Bark, Nigella sativa Seeds and Capsicum annum fruits and polymer like HPMC, PG, PEG-400 which were studied using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The outcome recommended there was no physical and chemical instability of Drug, Herbal extract and polymer. newlineThe Glibenclamide, Amoxicillin, and Telmisartan patches were formulated by using solvent casting method. The formulated patches were evaluated for various parameters like Thickness, Weight uniformity, % Moisture uptake, % Moisture content, % Drug content, and Folding Endurance as well as various plant extract were evaluated for extractive values and qualitative chemical test were done. newlineTotal 48 formulations were prepared in order to study the bio enhancing activity of various transdermal patches. In this study two models were used for finding out the comparative activity including Franz diffusion Cell and Everted gut sac model. In case of Glibenclamide formulation F9 which was Glibenclamide and methanolic extract of Nigella sativa seeds showed utmost bio enhancing activity with cumulative drug release of 81.23% as well as drug absorption of 4.34% newlineIn case of Amoxicillin formulation F25 which was Amoxicillin and methanolic extract of Nigella sativa seeds showed ultimate bio enhancing activity
