Carbon Stabilization in Different Cropping System of Prayagraj District to Mitigate Global Warming

Abstract

ABSTRACT newlineAn experiment was conducted to determine the effect of cropping systems on soil organic carbon newlinestocks in eight tahsils of Prayagraj District namely Sadar, Soraon, Phulpur, Handia, Bara, newlineKarchana, Koraon, and Meja. The soil samples were collected from rice-wheat and rice-mustard newlinecropping systems of four selected villages of each tehsil at 0 15 and 15 30 cm depth. The newlinePhysio-chemical and biological analysis of soil was done with the following standard procedures newlineduring the years 2017-18 and 2018-19 at before sowing and after harvesting of the crops. Cro newlinehad a significant impact on soil organic carbon stock, Db, SMBC, soil respiration, and soil newlinemicrobial diversity. The results imply that rice/wheat cropping system are more effective for newlinemaintaining soil organic carbon and enhancing soil quality than rice/mustard. newlineKeywords: carbon stabilization, cropping system, global warming, carbon dioxide. newline
