Abstract

newline Indian animated mythological films, which combine traditional storytelling with modern animation methods, occupy a special place in the global animation companies. Using a mixed methods approach that combines qualitative and quantitative research methods this PhD thesis analyses the technical, artistic, and cultural aspects of such films. The aim of the study is to understand how these movies use cultural stories, animation methods, and audio and video components to draw in audiences and preserve mythological history. Analysing the animation methods used by Indian animated mythological films, with the focus on their audio-visual elements, is the main objective of the study. Animation techniques, character design, backdrop and environment design, special effects, cinematic techniques, voice acting. music, sound effects, dialogues, and audio mixing are some of the important sub-variables that are examined. The cultural significance of these movies as well as their impact on academics and the animation industry are explored as well in the thesis. The study uses a mixed-methodology framework with three primary strategies used to achieve the following objectives:- In order to collect data about the development of animation methods and how they are used in Indian animated mythological films, questionnaires were given to animators and animation professionals. Content Analysis: To find and record the commonly used animation techniques, a selection of films were subjected to a methodical analysis using observational tools. For better organization and analysis, the data was entered on coded sheets. Interviews: To find out how respondents from animation educational institutions and companies responded about the combination of traditional and modern animation techniques in these movies, interviews were conducted.
