Effect of Crumb Rubber Fine Aggregate on Properties of Concrete

Abstract

Concrete is the most widely used construction material in civil newlineengineering. The most important resources used in concrete is cement and newlineaggregates along with supplementary cementitious materials. Due to this there is an newlineincreasing demand for the aggregates used for the production for the concrete. On newlinethe other hand, the utilization of these natural resources emerges as a growing newlineconcern for shielding the environment and to preserve the resources by using newlinesubstitute materials (waste materials). Hence, the research focuses towards the use of newlinerecycled tyre (rubber crumb) by substituting fines. newlineIn initial part, the background of the study and the scope of the problem newlineare discussed. An exhaustive relevant literature was studied to identify the problems. newlineThe research was carried out by conduction the tests on the raw materials such as newlinecement, silica fume, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate and crumb rubber to determine newlinethe properties and suitability to be used in the experiments. The mix design for the newlinedifferent grades (M30 and M40) was prepared using IS 10262 2009. The concrete newlinewas produced with partial replacement of fine aggregate by crumb rubber by varying newlinebetween 3% to 15%. In addition to that a controlled mix with the absence of crumb newlinerubber was produced for the comparative analysis.
