Certain investigations on segmentation techniques and classification of osteoarthritis in knee MR images

Abstract

Image segmentation has varieties of applications in all fields like newlinemedicine, agriculture, defense, space, robotics, etc., Biomedical images newlineusually contain complex objects which vary in appearance from one image to newlineanother. Measuring or detecting the presence of particular structures in such newlineimages can be a daunting task since there would be variations in each image. newlineIn particular, the segmentation technique in image processing has a plethora of newlineapplications, especially in the biomedical field. In getting complete information and for effective analysis of various faults, image segmentation plays a vital role. By segmenting the area of interest in an image, one can get an accurate and clear result of segmented area, which is otherwise difficult. Arthritis is a kind of disorder that affects all the joints in the body, especially the knee, hip, shoulder and hand joints. There are different forms of arthritis and the most prevalent among them is Osteoarthritis (OA). The major effects of OA found in knee are degradation of joints, including articular cartilage and subchondral bones. newline newline
