National library of India a case study using performance indicators and users satisfaction

Abstract

The research topic titled NATIONAL LIBRARY OF INDIA: A CASE STUDY USING PERFORMANCE INDICATORS AND USERS SATISFACTION has evaluated the National Library of India on select key performance indicators included in Indian Standard IS 16207: 2015 Information and Documentation- Performance Indicators for National Libraries issued by the International Organization for Standardization. The study has evaluated various Professional, Indian Languages and Conservation Divisions of the National Library of India. The study has also attempted to measure the level of compliance of Indian Publishers with the Delivery of Books and Newspapers Act, of 1954. To achieve this objective, data was collected from Raja Rammohun Roy National Agency for assigned ISBN books for 2016-18. Furthermore, the study also analysed data from the Central Reference Library to measure the effectiveness of the Indian National Bibliography by carrying a comparison between the number of titles deposited under D.B. Act and with number of titles included in INB. To have a qualitative and comprehensive coverage, the study also carried out users satisfaction with the infrastructure, resources, services and staff. The study carried out various statistical tests to arrive at major findings and conclusions. The findings suggested that various Indian Language Divisions should put in more effort to achieve a higher compliance level of deposit. The National Library also needs to reframe its various policies in an ever-evolving technological era to remain relevant in the electronic age by enlarging the scope of D.B. Act. newline
