Abstract
The synthesis of new conjugated polymers by functionalizing precursor
newlinemolecules is an attractive route to tailor the optical and electronic characteristics
newlineof these materials. This strategy has been used to and#64257;nd new polythiophene
newlinederivatives, due to their suitable electronic properties associated with
newlineenvironmental stability and the relative ease of modifying the monomer
newlinestructure. Polythiophene derivatives with optimized properties have been
newlineemployed as active electrodes in several electrochemical/electronic devices,
newlineincluding capacitors, electrochromic displays, p n junctions,
newlinephotoelectrochemical cells and and#64257;eld-effect transistors. Functionalized polymers
newlineobtained from thiophene substituted with longer alkyl chains have been also
newlineused to produce more regioregular structures.
newlineThe polymers were coated on the ITO glass plate by means of
newlineelectrochemical polymerization. Polymers such as poly (ANI-co-EDOT), poly
newline(3MT-co-EDOT), poly (2HT-co-EDOT) and poly (2OT-co-EDOT) were
newlinesynthesized. The effect of scan rate was studied in all the pHs (1.0-13.0). The
newlinetechniques such as cyclic voltammetry, UV-VIS, FT-IR, XRD, AFM, SEM and
newlineEDX were carried out.
newlineTo study the electrochromic behavior of the copolymers, colouration
newlineefficiency, optical contrast, response time and multichromic behavior were
newlinedetermined. From the experimental data it was evaluated that poly (ANI-co
newlineEDOT), poly (3MT-co-EDOT), poly (2HT-co-EDOT) and poly (2OT-co
newlineEDOT) exhibit better electrochromic properties. From this investigation the
newlinecopolymers can be suggested to find applications in Electrochromic Devices.
