Comparison of district and state athletics associations contribution towards the development of athletics in Uttar pradesh and Maharashtra state

Abstract

The population of this study was District/State Athletics Association newlinewhich is located in jurisdiction of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra State, India. newlineIn fact, the office bearers, employees and coaches of these Athletic newlineAssociations represent the population. The researcher considered the offices newlineof all the district level and state level athletic associations as sample. The newlinestudy was conducted in two phases. In first phase, a questionnaire with five newlinepotential dimensions with fifty items on four point scale viz., 1) functional newlinesystem of the association , 2) work done by the association , 3) association s newlineachievement in terms of infrastructure and facilities , 4) success and failure of newlineassociation to create national and international level of athletes , and newline5) Association s contribution (full efforts) for the development of athletics was newlinedeveloped. The test-retest reliability of the questionnaire was 0.75. The newlinequestionnaire was administered to the sample subjects (n=163) that newlinerepresents mostly Life President, President, Chairman, Vice Presidents, newlineGeneral Secretary, Treasurer, Joint Secretary, Members, Employees and newlineCoaches of Athletic Association of 34 Districts. The researcher could not meet newlineall these office bearers during the visit of data collection. However, the newlinequestionnaire was administered on total 63 subjects from Maharashtra newlineAmateur Athletics Association. Similarly, 100 subjects from 73 districts of Uttar newlinePradesh were administered the questionnaire. Thus, total sample was 163. newlineThe obtained data was processed with percentage-wise analysis. newlinexxii newlineThe overall results of percentage-wise analysis revealed that the newlineworking system, work done and achievement of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra newlinestate Athletic Associations, are different. In fact, in this regard Uttar Pradesh state newlineAthletic Association is found better than the Athletic Association of the state of newlineMaharashtra. Both the Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra Athletic Associations are not newlinefully successful to provide National and International standard Athletes.
