A mobile adhoc network, also referred as MANET, is a temporary network without any permanent infrastructure and comprises of mobile nodes connected with each other in excess of wireless links. Due to lack of existing infrastructure and as nodes are able to move anywhere in network freely, topology of network may dynamically change. Packets from source to destination are transmitted through intermediate nodes in a store and forward manner. Due to temporary infrastructure and dynamic topology, designing of routing protocol for MANET is a very challenging task. newlineVarious key factors like mobility of nodes, frequent link failures, energy of nodes, link quality etc. affects communication in MANET significantly. Majority of the traditional routing protocols are discovering the shortest path between the source and the destination without considering crucial parameters like energy level of node, quality of link, estimation of link expiry, location of nodes etc, which may result into poor packet delivery fraction, throughput, end-to-end delay and normalised routing load. Variation in any of the above mentioned factor will result in packet drop, link failure, degradation in quality of service etc. Hence the above factors are very crucial and should be considered while designing a routing protocol for MANET. In recent years, lots of routing protocols for MANET have been proposed to find optimum route between the source and destination. Definition of optimum route varies in each proposed protocol. newline
