dc.description.abstractWith growing industrialization, the transmission and distribution of electric power has gained tremendous importance. However, for a long transmission line, AC transmission is more expensive than DC transmission. Technically, AC transmission line control is more complicated because of the inherent frequency component. The control strategy must be developed to generate and deliver power economically and reliably with minimal losses while maintaining the frequency and voltage within permissible limits. In other words, the stability and speed of response are the two conflicting criteria being imposed on such systems. To improve the system stability, a fast power flow control strategy is highly essential. HVDC technology makes it possible to transfer bulk power over long distances but also provides a rapid and effective control mechanism.
