dc.description.abstractAt present, India is progressing and growing at its fastest pace. It is developing and growing in all newlinesectors like industrial, service, education and infrastructure, etc., which improves its position on newlineeconomic growth from 142nd position to top 100th position in the world. Development and growth newlineof any country should be systematic, sustainable and environment friendly, which makes the life of newlinetheir inhabitants happy, healthy and wealthy. In this regard government of India has launched smart newlinecities projects for sustainable growth. This initiative will add on the wings for dynamic growth newlinewhich will take India to much higher level in the world. The growths of these areas are based on newlinemovement of people and goods from one place to another. This movement of public and goods is newlinetermed as transport. With the growth economy and population the need of transportation has newlineincreased, catering this fast growing transportation demand in Indian cities is a challenge, because newlinewith increase in means of transport. It is observed that infrastructure growth is moderate compared newlineto increase in the number of motorized vehicles. The problem of Traffic and transport is terribly felt newlinein almost all cities in India. Traffic and transport causes; air pollution, noise pollution, wastage of newlinetime and money, health hazards, excessive consumption of fossil fuel and accidents. Mr. D K Dash, newlinein an article of times of India published on 12 May 2012 says that The country loses INR 60,000 newlinecrore annually due to congestion (including fuel wastage), slow speed of freight vehicles and newlinewaiting time at toll plazas and checking points.
