dc.description.abstractWorld Wide Web (WWW) is a huge repository of information and its success is due newlineto its decentralized structure where anyone irrespective of its geographic location can newlinepublish its content. However, due to large amount of available information it is newlinebecoming difficult to access the relevant information. There has been a lot of newlineparadigm shifts in the searching of information from WWW, which varies from newlinedirectories to search engines. Web search techniques are mainly based upon a newlinecombination of textual keywords in association with ranking of the documents newlinedepending on the link structure of the web. Such keyword based search engines are newlinethe main tools for retrieval of information from WWW. However, the main limitation newlineof keyword based approaches is that it produces irrelevant and imprecise results, newlinemaking the search ineffective and time consuming, thus mandates an approach newlinetowards Semantic Web. newlineSemantic Web allows the machine to interpret the concepts with underlying newlineknowledge representation in structured languages such as RDF, OWL. The main newlinetechnologies for the Semantic Web are ontologies, metadata and the semantic web newlinelanguage RDF, OWL, DAML+OIL. The current search engines cannot effectively newlineutilize semantic web documents for web search as current search engines are not able newlineto exploit the information representation provisions available in languages of semantic newlineweb. Therefore, the traditional techniques cannot be deployed for searching the newlinedocuments represented in semantic web languages, hence there arises a need for newlinemodified crawling; indexing and ranking mechanism as the existing mechanism are newlineinadequate for it.The present thesis work makes a contribution to the research effort of designing and newlinedeveloping of a framework for searching ontology annotated documents. Three newlineontologies have been developed in the domain of laptop using Protégé tool. The newlinedeveloped ontologies are associated with the web pages that best describes the newlineconcepts contained in particular ontology. Framework for crawling these ontology newlineannotated
