Effectiveness of Content and Language Integrated Learning CLIL Pedagogy on Selected Learning Outcome of Primary Grade Students A Mixed Method Study

Abstract

In this study the effectiveness of CLIL was investigated on selected learning newlineoutcomes of primary grade students through a mixed-method approach, utilizing a newlinesample of primary school students. In 1994, David Marsh introduced the concept newlineof CLIL. CLIL represents a holistic methodology that emphasizes the newlineincorporation of language education within subject-specific learning. CLIL newlineenables educators to create instructional units and lesson plans that are thorough, newlineproviding numerous opportunities for the practical application of knowledge and newlinethe enhancement of communication skills. This study was carried out within the newlineeducational environment of Punjab, India. For the purpose of this study, two newlineprivate schools located in District Mohali, Punjab were chosen. The current study newlineemployed an Explanatory Sequential Research Design, beginning with a newlinequantitative approach (Intervention study) followed by qualitative analysis (Indepth newlineinterviews) to evaluate the effectiveness of CLIL in comparison to Non- newlineCLIL group students. In the quantitative phase, a quasi-experimental setting was newlineemployed, utilizing a pretest-posttest control group design to gather data (CLIL newlineGROUP = 200, NON CLIL GROUP = 170). newlineDuring the qualitative phase, in-depth interviews with students were conducted. newlineThe participants in the study, encompassing both the intervention and control newlinegroups, were chosen from students attending six sections of 4th and 5th grades at newlinetwo private schools located in Banur, Punjab. Both schools were designated with newlineCLIL as the intervention group and Non-CLIL as the control group.
