Abstract
Cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide. As per International
newlineAgency for Research on Cancer (IARC) 14.1 million new cancer cases
newlineoccurred in 2012. Breast cancer was by far the most common cancer
newlinediagnosed in women (Ferlay et al, 2010)
newlineThe aim of the present study is to evaluate the risk factors for breast
newlinecancer and to study the role of copper, estrogen and nitric oxide in the growth
newlineand progression of breast cancer in pre and postmenopausal women.

newline1. To evaluate the risk factors for breast cancer in a selected population.
newline2. To estimate the levels of copper, estrogen and nitric oxide in different
newlinestages of breast cancer in pre and postmenopausal women.
newline3. To associate the role of copper, estrogen and nitric oxide in growth
newlineand progression of breast cancer in different stages.
newlineThis study has shown that breast cancer is caused due to certain risk
newlinefactors prevalent in the community and that it occurs at an earlier age than
newlineWest. It also explains the role of hormones and copper in the causation of
newlinebreast cancer which can be considered to be same as that of the population
newlinein general as patients visiting this hospital belong nearly to the same
newlinegeographical region of the country.
