Abstract
Aging is commonly related to functional decline of an organism and progressive deleterious alterations leading to increased risk of disease and death with advancing age. This is an inevitable process which can lead to oxidative stress and affect the function of kidney, brain, liver, and so on. In recent years, discovery of many anti-oxidant ingredients has made it possible to delay senescence and finding effective anti-aging foods or drugs. Antioxidants are of great importance because of their involvement in decreasing the damages generated from free radicals, that are naturally associated with various diseases. A wide range of phytochemicals have been suggested to minimize the risks of age associated disorders. Aegle marmelos L. is an important medicinal plant which is widely used in folk medicine. The investigative study of different parts of Aegle marmelos L. revealed that, there is presence of various phytochemical compounds. It also possesses antioxidant, anxiolytic, antidepressant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic activities. The protective effect of Aegle marmelos L. extracts on the brain of male mice during aging has investigated in the present study. The presence of the important bioactive constituents in leaves, unripe and ripe fruit of Aegle marmelos (L) may attribute health benefits by providing the protective effects during the progressive stages of aging and other chronic disorders. The preliminary studies of Aegle marmelos L. shows importance for reducing oxidative stress. Thus it may shows protective assessment of Aegle marmelos L. The present work focused to determine antiaging effect of Aegle marmelos L. show significant decrease in lipid peroxidation and florescence product whereas acid phosphatase enzyme activity and antioxidant enzymes like SOD, CAT and GPx were significantly increased in cerebral hemisphere and cerebellum of Aegle marmelos L. extracts treated mice groups.
