| dc.description.abstract | The present study explores the role of Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) in fostering rural development in Ghazipur district of Eastern Uttar Pradesh. Recognizing the structural challenges faced by small and marginal farmers such as limited access to markets, inputs, credit, and modern technologies the study evaluates how FPOs serve as institutional mechanisms to empower farming communities. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected from 100 respondents, including FPO members, non-members, and organizational leaders, across multiple blocks in the district. The research examines the socio-economic impact of FPOs, their contribution to agricultural productivity, promotion of crop diversification, technology adoption, and sustainable farming practices. Findings indicate that FPO membership significantly enhances farm income, institutional credit access, and market linkages. Members reported a 33% increase in income, greater adoption of high-yield varieties and mechanization, and improved yield per hectare. Additionally, FPOs facilitated diversification into high-value crops and promoted sustainable practices such as organic farming and water conservation. However, the study also identifies key constraints, including limited working capital, inadequate infrastructure, governance challenges, and gender disparities. The study concludes that while FPOs have emerged as vital enablers of rural development, their scalability and sustainability require robust policy support, financial newline newlineincentives, infrastructure investment, and inclusive capacity-building strategies. newline newline | |
