In Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET), a set of wireless nodes autonomously and dynamically form the network. Multicasting is the process in which a tree is constructed with source node as the root and receivers as the leaves. It supports applications which belong to group communication like video conferencing and chatting. In order to ensure reliability in multicast data transmission, apart from link and node failures, packet loss which occurs due to network congestion, collision and bad channel condition should be considered. Bad channel condition and overloading causes bulk packet losses are addressed only in a few works. Lack of centralized architecture and highly changing topology, it make to monitoring of traffic and detection of attacks in large scale MANET a hard task. Multicast transmission in MANET should meet the basic security needs such as confidentiality, authentication and integrity within or across the group. In order to provide reliability and security to multicast transmission, a Cross-layer based Lightweight Reliable and Secure Multicast Routing (CLR-SMR) protocol has been proposed. In the reliable multicast route discovery phase, a multicast tree is formed with the sender as the root. Then various levels of this tree are divided into clusters, based on the depth of the tree. In each cluster, a node with higher link stability, higher remaining energy and higher remaining bandwidth is selected as a Cluster Head (CH). Across the clusters, gateway nodes are selected on the basis of the remaining energy and packet delivery ratio newline
