dc.description.abstractWind energy utilization has been growing at a rapid rate, fuelling research and development newlinein wind turbine - generator systems. Doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) driven by a newlinewind turbine is a commonly used wind energy conversion system. To advance research and newlineeducation in wind energy conversion systems, a controlled test bed is necessary that does newlinenot depend on wind availability. Hence, this thesis deals with emulation of wind turbine newlineusing a power electronic controlled squirrel cage induction motor (SCIM). The thesis also newlineconcerns novel control techniques for stand-alone and grid-connected DFIG systems in order to improve dynamic performance, rotor position estimation, and robustness to parameter variations... newline
